What is the difference in the types of credit cards, such as platinum, gold, silver,classic, etc..?
I currently have credit cards, some of which are platinum, some seemingly regular, and one gold. What is the actual difference in the types, if any?

Its more an ego thing than anything else. There is little you can assume from this, just read the fine print and figure out which ones are best for you.
Just more of a status symbol. The credit card companies know what they are doing … a way to charge you higher fees for so-called premium cards.
